Term 2: What has it been like?

So firstly I would like to apologise for not posting in awhile. Life has managed to get in the way. Reports, sickness, Netflix. You know the normal things that seem to happen during winter.

I wanted to start off with a wee reflection of this term.

The children have worked extremely hard. They have come up with amazing learning experiences that will truely help them grow into very cool adults. They are focused on how they can better support and care for others. Well Done kiddos!

At the start of the term we went into the Christchurch Art Gallery. If you haven't been do go along.
During our visit they observed a range of artworks - some they liked some they didn't. I guess it would be best to say they may have touched some (they are only kids), while trying to count dots on one particular art work. This was possibly the learners favourite piece. They also went into the art class while on their visit and created some amazing NZ native birds.

When they went back to school they were buzzing. Wanting to show and tell everyone about their experiences. During a space hui it came out that the learners wanted to create their own art gallery. The teachers ideas were heard. We thought it would only take a little bit of time but the learners insisted.

Then the fun began. Posters, blurbs, hosting skills and composing emails were some of the skills needed. Reading, Writing and Maths was all covered. Workshops were created and the learning took their own tern. They decided this needed to be bigger than before. The other learning spaces, the local retirement home, parents and family were all invited to share in their learning. Boy did they come in droves!

From 1:30 the learners were set to begin. From 1:15 the people arrived. Tour guides met people in the office to bring them down to the learning space which has now become an art gallery. The afternoon was full. The learners were fantastic and so proud of their work. It was huge. All the teachers couldn't have been more proud of the learners.

Another big project was around the children learning the difference between personal and private information. The have also been really interested in making commercials. It was easy to see that this could go hand in hand. Over the past weeks the children created short commercials that used a product that they created that would stop sharing personal information.

Overall this term has been full of fantastic learning. The learners have worked hard on their personal learning and goals, while continuing to be amazing.

To all the teachers out there have a relaxing break and do spend some time doing something fun.

As for me I will be presenting at the EdTech Summit in Sydney for a few days. I am really excited about sharing some of the amazing things that the learners use Explain Everything for.
