The week of NEW

Kia Ora

So this week has all been about things that are new and shiny.

This week we got into our new purpose built space with our new wee learners.

As the space goes I have always believed that true collaboration doesn't mean being in a purpose built space. Collaboration can happen in any space and over the past few years I have learned that they can be done joint or even with an outside space between. In saying that it is lovely to be in this space. Its beautiful with fantastic light, great acoustics, connections with outside and the ability for the three of us to be in one space.

We have a big meeting space where the children can sit on the tiered seating.

A large breakout space called Tahi.

A smaller breakout space called Rua.

A large open space for student and teacher collaboration.

A cool outdoor area.

Lots of storage.

We are also connected with the year 4 - 6 learning space and share the kitchen and art area with them.

This week also saw a new bunch of learners. It has been strange to begin the year with so many new learners. I have met so many people over the past couple of weeks - Mums, Dads, Grandparents, important people from the learners lives, community members and most importantly the kids. Soon to be known as our kids.

They are excited about getting to know the new space and the new opportunities that awaits them in the coming year. I feel extremely privileged to be part of the journey and I really look forward to how this will look this year. All 74 learners plus the four of us make an amazing family of 78.

It has also been a week where Rachael, Tyla, Andrea and I have reconnected as educators. It's great to be working with these two again this year. We do make up a weird little (but growing) family. Who really knows what the end of this year will look like? How will the learning look like? Will it be different from last year? (I could almost answer that question as it will!)
